Perhaps most alarming, the high school class of 2023 left behind over $4 billion in unclaimed federal college aid, including Pell Grants — not because they weren’t eligible, but because no one showed them how to access it (hildrethinstitute.org).

But hope is stronger than hardship. With consistent mentorship, trauma-informed therapy, scholarships for first-generation students, and community engagement programs rooted in data-backed results, we can break the cycle of despair and replace it with opportunity.
